More Hot Tips: Candle Care & Safety

Our team prioritizes the quality and safety of Tuscany Candle® products for an enjoyable, stress-free experience.

Master the art of safe candle burning by following these guidelines:

  1. The first time you light a candle, let it burn until the entire top has melted to the container edges before putting it out. For most of our candles, this works out to be about one hour per inch in diameter. Wax has a “memory” so if a candle is extinguished with a partial wax pool it may tunnel and never achieve a full pool. This can lead to issues such as wicks extinguishing themselves.

  2. Avoid letting your candle burn for longer than four hours at a time. Any longer and the balance between the length of the wick, the temperature of the flame, and the melting wax starts to get out of sync. If you are looking to fill a space with scent for a long period of time, we suggest stocking up on multiples of the same candle and rotating them throughout the day.

  3. Always trim your wicks to ¼” before use to remove any wick 'bloom' from the previous burn. A lengthy wick is how you end up with “sooting” and it can also lead to an uneven burn. Avoid letting the excess wick fall onto the top of the candle. Stray debris will inhibit your candle’s performance and may lead to performance and safety issues.

  4. Do not blow out your candles! This is the worst way to extinguish your candle as you risk sending droplets of hot wax flying out of the jar or filling your face with smoke. Instead, use a candle snuffer, a wick dipper, or even a glass covering, so long as it’s completely made from non-flammable materials.

  5. Discontinue the use of your candle when 1/2” of wax is left at the bottom of the jar. Continuing to burn after this point significantly increases safety risks.

QUICK CANDLE SAFETY TIPS

  • Please do not leave candles burning unattended.
  • Keep candles out of the reach of small children and pets.
  • Always burn on a heat resistant surface.
  • Remove all packaging before lighting.
  • Do not use if the jar is cracked, chipped, or scratched.
  • Do not touch or move candle with visible (liquid) hot wax.
  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, or any combustible material.
  • Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, and ceiling fans to minimize smoking or a wick blowing out causing the candle to burn unevenly.
  • Make sure candles are completely extinguished and the wick no longer glows before leaving the room.
Wax Melts

Much like our candles, we do not recommend exceeding 4 hours of burn time on our wax melts. We recommend using 1 fragrance cube for outlet warmers and 1-2 cubes for tabletop warmers. Each section in our 6-cube packaging will emit between 4-5 hours of fragrance when fully melted.

When you are ready to swap fragrances be sure you allow the dish to fully cool before handling. You can pop the dish into the freezer until the wax easily releases from the dish. Allow the dish to return to room temperature before use.

How to Store Your Tuscany Candle® Products

The fragrance oils and wax formulas we use in our products are sensitive to both light and temperature so please use care when storing Tuscany Candle® products for an extended period of time. Be sure to store your candles and wax melts in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or any intense light to protect from color fade or discoloration.

Our products can be sensitive to extreme cold and heat so it is best to store them between 50ºF and 85ºF. Extended periods of heat can cause melting while extreme cold may cause separation or even cracking. After long exposure to cold temperatures, allow the candle to return to room temperature for at least 2 hours before burning.
